Amanda here! I'm sure some of you have seen me around the studio every now and then but for those of you who haven't officially met me yet, here's 5 facts about me:
1. I work in the digital industry as a web designer for a software company.
2. My fiancé and I are getting married in March after a whopping 8 years and some odd months together!
3. We have two mischievous rescue dogs, Mizzy and Oz.
4. I ran one half marathon last year and don't plan on doing it ever again.
5. I make a mean strawberry/rhubarb crisp
When it comes to fitness, I've tried many group workouts in the past from CrossFit and Bootcamps, to your typical gym classes and although most of these classes have pushed and challenged me, none of them stuck for longer than a few months, and then came University. For 3 years my 4-5 days a week fitness routine turned into something more like once every 3 months. I would be fairly consistent during summer breaks, going to the gym sometimes 5 days a week and then again, would stop dedicating time for self-care once fall hit.
The timing seemed perfect when Spinunity was introduced to me through a friend the summer after I graduated from University. I was totally ready to get back on track and was up for trying anything!
My first class was probably similar to most people's...the climb that felt too hard (hello quads!), tabatas that I thought would never end, those one or two more turns that seemed impossible! And as sore and uncomfortable as I felt after, I couldn’t stop thinking about how amazing the atmosphere was, the people, and the music. I knew this was something I had to keep pursuing to get out of my 3 year fitness hiatus.
Fast forward to about two years later and here I am, still walking through those Spinunity doors. Every class is a chance for me to set a new goal; will I go faster, hover lower, use heavier weights? Spin has not only allowed me to get back into a healthier lifestyle, it has really helped me achieve a positive work/life balance as well. Being on that bike is a chance to take the time to calm my mind and allows me set the “important” things aside for an hour to sweat and reset.
