When did you fall in love with spin? 

What drew me to spin initially was knowing that you could work at your own level in a group setting. You get the benefit of the energy of that room without feeling directly compared to others. As someone that used to be over 200lb that totally appealed to me. I fell in love with it once i realized how much it helped with my running and how good for the soul it is to lose yourself in the music.

What are your nicknames? 

The worst nickname I've had is Tank. I helped start one of the womens rugby teams in the city back in the mid 1990's and my coach said i could hit like a tank, and drink like one :) I thought it would die with adulthood but a soccer teammate got wind of this and resurrected it. More recently, Im known as JWhoa which is now my twitter and instagram name, a loose connection between JLo, mom maiden name and go-go-go nature.

WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOUR CLASSES?

I love pretty much every genre of music, which is reflected in my playlists. I love seeing riders lost in a tune, pushing themselves enjoying the beat. I like to make my classes tough for those that need it, but making everyone feel safe in riding to where they are in their fitness journey on any given day. Some days you just need to sit down and take the tension off for bit, and thats ok. But then get back in it and make yourself better!

Where can we find you on a Sunday morning? 

I teach running clinics so every Sunday morning is spent on the river valley trails training. My fave post-run ritual is a hot cup of good coffee for the drive home and in the winter I add a blanket over me so I dont freeze before that hot bath that follows!

Guiltiest Pleasure?

Too many!! Red wine and dark chocolate lead the race with soft ginger cookies. Harry Potter, pink lip gloss and beach-worthy fiction pulling in right behind them.

If you could give someone one piece of advice, what would it be?

This holds true with almost everything: if you get a flat tire, dont slash the other three. Just fix the damn tire. With fitness, we have setbacks that can almost always be regained. Life is like that too. We're human and we all mess up. Just fix it before it gets ugly and there's a lot less work to do.

What inspires you? 

I'm a single mom of four boys that I co-parent equally with their Dad. They inspire me to be strong, capable and smart women. They inspire me to be the best me so I can be my best for them. I want them to know that even if life takes unexpected turns, you can re-invent yourself and make the best out of almost everything.
